Customization
Below
you can find a list of FileDirector features that manage customization.
If screenshots are applicable for the feature you can click on the link
and view them at the end of each feature description.
User-Defined Metadata Design
The fields, in which index information can be applied, are extremely easy to create and apply to FileDirector’s document types. You can have many different field properties applied, such as, characters, numbers, memos, keywords and multiple date properties and more.
Windows & Browser Clients As Standard
With FileDirector you have the option of both a Windows based thick-client and a web browser based thin-client and you have almost identical and complete functionality through either interface.
Windows Client & Browser Customization
Both the WinClient and the web browser based client can be
manipulated and designed so that users can only see the menu buttons
and options they need to.
Document Annotations, Including Hyperlinks
There are many annotations that can be made to document stored in
FileDirector, such as, highlighting, black-out, white-out, red lines,
text and even adding hyperlinks to documents. These additions to pages
kept in the system do not modify the original document but are place as
an overlay on top of them.
Linked Document References
FileDirector has the ability to link one or more documents to another within the program. To do this you can drag and drop documents onto each other and this will create a visible link between them.
Built-In Documented SDK
FileDirector has an in-built Software Developers Kit available. This
allows for customization of the software to meet the needs of a
specific requirement should the out-of-the-box package not have the
required capabilities.
Codeless Application Linking
The Codeless Connector is a unique and extremely
useful tool within FileDirector. It allows you to link with another,
commonly used application, without the need for writing any additional
software links. This has various applications but the most common is to
perform a search in your database application, such as Sage Accounting,
return the record and then you can perform a simple double click in a
field to return all relevant documents to do with that record in
FileDirector.
Process Management / Workflow With Unique Graphical Interface
FileDirector has a unique and comprehensive Graphical Process Management and Workflow module available. It is used to create a pre-defined route for a document to follow through an organization. It is typically used for documents that require varying levels of authorization throughout a business such as purchases, orders, invoices and HR documents. A path or route can be developed through the graphical interface which is designed to deliver the document to different employees in the business. This will ask for authorization from those employees before the document can continue on its process can complete.
Advanced Keywords
It is possible to apply Keywords as index values to documents stored in FileDirector. A keyword list is created and applied to a document type which will allow you to add a number of commonly used values which allows for quick and accurate indexing. One unique feature of the keywords in FileDirector is that the keyword can be linked and relational to one another. For example if the first index field was set to Continent, and the second to Country, a selection of North America would only return countries listed in North America in the second index field, whereas a selection of Europe would only list those countries in Europe.
Microsoft SharePoint Integration
FileDirector offers you a premium option to directly retrieve and load your documents into Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server. This option will be available from version 2.1.
Single Application For Scanning, Storing, Classification & Retrieval
The FileDirector WinClient is a single interface that will allow you to perform all day to day functions within one window. Unlike other document management software there is no need for multiple applications to be open at once.
Web Access To Documents With Near-Complete Functionality
FileDirector includes a WebServer interface that can allow you to search for and retrieve documents over the internet providing you have a valid login. Alternatively you can run the entire FileDirector WinClient through a browser giving you access to almost every option available within its interface, including tasks such as scanning.
