In this section you can find small video clips highlighting several useful features of FileDirector.

Please click on the video buttons next to the relevant sections below to show the informative video clips.

Codeless Connector

The Codeless Connector is a unique and extremely useful tool within FileDirector. It allows you to link with another, commonly used application, without the need for writing any additional software links. This has various applications but the most common is to perform a search in your database application, such as Sage Accounting, return the record and then you can perform a simple double click in a field to return all relevant documents to do with that record in FileDirector.

Client Configuration

The client configuration tool in FileDirector allows for complete customization for individual users or groups of the working FileDirector desktop environment. Literally any menu option or button can be added or removed which means that system administrators can rollout a network-wide desktop uniformed interface for users as well as removing the ability to delete records, for example.

Filing System

The filing system in FileDirector allows for a comprehensive  structure which can mimick an existing filing method or improve upon it. We believe that this structure is superior to traditional "tree" structures as it can assist in the preventing of mis-filed documents which typically occur with that method. Using recognizable terms such as Cabinets and Document Types mean that documents can be found easily whether you browse for them or perform a simple search.

OCR Indexing

without having to type that data in. Drawing a box around text on the document automatically captures the text contained within it and applies it to that document so that it can be indexed. The OCR Index button in FileDirector allows you to quickly, easily and accurately capture index information from a scanned image

Microsoft Office Integration

The Microsoft Office Integration function allows documents to be saved directly into FileDirector from Office applications. A ‘Send To FileDirector’ button exists in the toolbars of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook which, when clicked, will send the document you are working on into the system and prompt you to apply index information to it. Alternatively if you are working on a document already held in FileDirector then it  is possible to amend it and save a trail of revisions created for that file.

Document Retention Control

A retention period can be set on documents so that they are not kept in the system any longer than needed. For example, if a financial record has a lifespan of 7 years, FileDirector can be set to perform a number of actions on that document 7 years after it was last accessed; such as deleting the document, moving it to another location or being reminded that it no longer needs to be kept. This can help to maintain a reasonable size to the document repository for long term records.

Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)

With FileDirector you have the ability to link the database of another commonly used application with the indexing of a document. For example: If your accounting software already has data, such as name, address and postcode, entered into it, you can link the two applications so that FileDirector will recognize when the postcode field has been entered. This will, in turn, extract the information from the accounting software and populate the rest of the index fields with data because postcodes match.

Full Text OCR

Full text OCR is a very powerful and commonly used tool in Document Management applications. If required, it will read the text from every document placed in the system, scanned or electronic, and will extract it, place it into the database and allow that document to be retrieved by any word on the page. This can dramatically increase the speed by which you find some documents.
